In my opinion researching your Ancestry is a labour of love, to find those who went before us, who they were, where did they come from and where did they go?

And So on ….

What was life, like for these people? What did they do in their daily lives, their work, love, happiness, sadness, struggles, emigration and hope for their future.

So Where to Begin…

When you have made the decision to trace your Ancestors, it is easy at this stage to want to look at every available resource on line and otherwise only to find that the vast amount of available information can make you want to give up your research before you even begin.

Therefore, as obvious as it sounds, the best place to start is with yourself, your Parents, Grandparents and anyone else that you can talk to and ask questions.
Make sure to write everything down.

Then it is time to think about doing a DNA test, Ancestry, Heritage, 23&Me, Family Tree it is a personal choice when you weigh up what each one has to offer. I started with my chosen one and from there, I did use other DNA Test companies, as well as using generic sites where you can upload your DNA.

When your DNA results arrive.
What are the areas that your people came from, who are your matches, who do you share matches with, view public Trees.
Make contact with people and see who you both share, try to work together to find that Common Ancestor.
Research any available information on these areas.

Note: Most companies will give you a free trial period but then it is subscription based.

There are a lot of free online information sites available.
